Street photography in Wedding...

When a child picks up a camera and pushes the button that simple spontaneous image is a Street Photograph, it is, first of all, a raw reaction to the scene in front of it, a person, a car, a color. That primitive urge to react, to make a picture is at the heart of Street Photography beyond any other area of picture making, it comes before any other agenda.

Wedding on film

Kenneth & Joycelyn Wedding Day

What was it like for wedding photographers in the 80s? Before the digital age, all they had were a few rolls of film. Imagine what the pressure would be. You only have a limited number of chances ( 36 per roll). You wouldn't be able to see what your photos looked like: dark or bright, clear or blurry. The answer would only come when the day was over and you came back from the lab. All you have is your eyes and your quick judgment of what the right setting for the scene should be. Make no mistake. Because when you finally realized it, the moments would have gone forever.

Recently, Analox became more and more fond of shooting in film. He loves the tonality, the retro look, and the total awareness when shooting film. Last Sunday, Analox felt like experiencing this feeling of wedding photographers in the old days so he put a roll of Lucky SuperNew 200 to his beloved OM1 and headed to the wedding of Joycelyn and Kenneth.

Here's what it turned out.

Our 1st wedding assignment in Vietnam

There are several ceremonies in a traditional Vietnamese wedding: an engagement ceremony where both families meet up, then the customary wedding where the bride leaves her home to the groom's house, followed by a banquet (kinda Western style)

We have a chance to cover all of these in details as the bride is my sister (yay!). Being an 'insider' has its pros n cons, especially when you can't be just an observer to document it. Got to shoot and be a brother/sister-in-law too.

Hope our album slideshow could bring you some ideas about a Vietnamese wedding :)

Thu Trang ♥ Dinh Lam

Yet another couple friends of ours are getting married this year. But it won't be until October and they still have plenty of time to plan for their big day.

It was as early as March that we went for a short session with them along Singapore River to the Merlion, the signature place that each and every tourist will go to. To be honest, although having been there so many times, I still think it's really beautiful there.

We went there early in the morning to catch the beautiful sunrise, which in our more than 7 years in Singapore, we had never been able to do. There wasn't a wedding gown but it was so exciting to shoot them. And you can totally tell that they belong to each other. We got ourselves some beautiful photos.

Well, enough said. Here are some of our favorite photos of the day.

Huy ♥ Hoang

Yes, as of right now, they are officially married. So this is kind of a 'late' congratulation if you will.
Huy has been our good friend for years now. He was also one of our photographers last year when we got married. So when it is his turn to put on the suit, it is our turn to pick up the camera and capture his best moments with his beautiful bride.

What you must know about the groom is his caring and helping nature...

Huy ♥ Hoang

... what you must know about the bride is that she designed her own wedding gown, making her own bouquets and plenty of other things for the wedding. I really admire her for that.

Huy ♥ Hoang

... and what you must know about them is that they want to spend their whole life together...

And this is perhaps what you don't know yet.

We went with them on a so-called 'engagement session' and captured not only how romantic they were but also how much fun they had with each other.

I've never thought that I would miss their wedding though. I heard from a guest that it was such a blast and I bet he was right.

Soon, they'll be home for the Vietnamese customary wedding. We wish them the best time of their lives together.

Khanh & Nhi - Solemnization by the beach

I wanted my previous post 'Goodbye 2009' to be our last post of this year until I realized I couldn't say goodbye without a post about this special wedding of Khanh & Nhi.
Yes, it was by the beach, at sunset. It is almost every girl's dream (including me :D). My husband and I were both so excited to think of all the beautiful sunset pictures there could be.
The weather turned out to be not quite supportive though. It was drizzling and we couldn't catch any glimpse of the sun. But who cares? Getting married in a little bit of rain is even more romantic (I said a little bit:D). Besides, how often do you get to see a blue umbrella in a wedding ceremony?

Khanh & Nhi

The groom dedicated the beautiful song "Two less lonely people in the world" to his newly-wedded wife. It was really touching. Everyone hardly noticed the rain except for the photographers (well, rain and cameras aren't really good friends)

The ceremony was followed by dinner in a lovely cozy place with candles, flowers, and wine. (Not to mention lots of games too). This time we decided to take an extra step to put some of our pictures together in hope of bringing the wonderful atmosphere to those who couldn't be there.

I love how all the red heart shapes lead the attention to our friend, Ryan in this photo. It's cute, isn't it?

Khanh & Nhi

Guess what game we were playing.

Khanh & Nhi

Well, I hope we did some part in capturing these precious moments for Khanh & Nhi. We wish them a lifetime of happiness together.

Happy New Year to all!
